The successful candidate will bring their firefighting experience to the City of Reno and be responsible for firefighting, life saving, emergency response, fire prevention, equipment operation and maintenance, facility maintenance, work and skill readiness.

Paramedics are eligible for additional pay! This is an open competitive opportunity for all currently qualified Firefighter applicants. Examples of essential functions include:

  • Respond to fires and other emergency or public assistance incidents in a timely, safe, and skilled manner.
  • Rescue persons endangered by fires or other hazards and administer first aid.
  • Conduct inspections and other fire prevention tasks.
  • Develop and maintain high levels of work knowledge and skills.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting and other related equipment.
  • Keep fire station and other facilities in a clean, orderly and usable condition.
  • Assist in completing other day-to-day work such as record keeping and map maintenance.
  • Perform various public information and relations tasks.
  • Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness.
  • May perform relief work as a Fire Equipment Operator.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • At least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Two years of current, full-time continuous employment as a Firefighter or higher ranking fire operations personnel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Nevada Class B Driver's license with an F endorsement.
  • Valid Nevada Basic Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • Current Nevada Firefighter I and II certifications.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current Haz Mat Operations certification.
  • Current NWCG S-130 and S-190 certifications.
  • Qualified candidates will be required to present a current CPAT or CPAT Equivalent.
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
