The hiring company is located in Reno, Nevada and serves as a corporate trustee for ultra-high net-worth families. POSITION TITLE: Trust Advisor with Tax Focus

A successful person in this role will demonstrate their tax expertise by leading the tax center and acting as the subject matter expert across all client relationships. In addition, the successful person will contribute to the organization's team in the day-to-day client operations, without any requirement or expectation for client development or business development. The role requires great attention to detail to comply with all policies, procedures, and trust accounting practices. RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:

  • Drive all tax-related processes including payments, review of tax returns, tax filings, respond to tax notices (forward to accountants) and compliance.
  • Work with client teams to prepare and review quarterly projections and estimated tax payments for the clients.
  • Research, recommend and follow up on various tax planning and other ad hoc requests developing strategies to minimize tax liabilities and ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Enhance the process for detailed reviews of trust, partnership, and multistate tax returns.
  • Provide quarterly reports and other client-related trust administration projects.
  • Proactively manage and organize the clients' relevant financial information, resulting in a complete and accurate family database.
  • Input (Verify?) all the tax information to provide to accountants to prepare complex tax returns.
  • Develop tax workpapers to enhance our review processes. Workpapers should be indexed to source documents to facilitate a review process.
  • Keep up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations; Advise management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities and business decisions.
  • Assist with the preparation of the deliverables for client quarterly meetings.
  • Work directly with the Trust Officers to support fiduciary decisions and trust administration responsibilities; partner with Trust Officers to maintain trust administration cohesion.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff and assist in their professional development.
  • Provide administration of trust accounts in adherence with trust instruments, governing documents of related entities, and Laurel Trust's policies and procedures.
  • Prepare new account pre-acceptance forms and assemble related materials, including trust instruments, portfolio holdings, partnership agreements, KYC information, and trust accounting records.
  • Review cash transfers, investment actions, market value updates, proposed beneficiary distributions, and other trust accounting transactions.
  • Update and review trust accounting system and account files to ensure accuracy of account information, tax reporting and statements.
  • Prepare annual account administrative reviews.
  • Prepare meeting materials for the Trust, Investment, and Distribution Committees.
  • Effectively manage multiple on-going projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks with good judgment and follow up.
  • Communicate and coordinate with external client advisors, including investment advisers, accountants, attorneys, and family offices.
  • Adhere to all compliance procedures and reinforce a strong compliance culture with the team.
  • Actively suggest improvements to procedures and policies especially as it relates to tax matters.
  • Serve as an internal leader and play a key role in helping to steward the organization's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability; and generate trust with all staff members
  • Assist with special initiatives and other duties as needed or desired to maintain a highly professional and collegial workplace culture.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's in tax, accounting, or other related field. CPA license is strongly preferred. Additional education / certifications that are preferred include: JD, MBA, CTFA, CFP, and/or CFA.
  • Work Experience - 3 + years public accounting tax experience with a Certified Public Accounting firm serving high net worth families or Family Office Services experience is highly desirable.
  • 3+ years of trust administration or planning experience is required with a focus on world–class service for high net-worth clients ($1MM+ level clientele).
  • Aptitude for utilizing technology to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact with varied audiences.
  • Skilled at navigating challenging client-related tax matters and providing guidance and feedback honestly, directly, and constructively.
  • Technically strong with demonstrated experience with sophisticated trust and asset structures.
  • Strong working knowledge of trust accounting.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • High-level proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Discretion and respect for confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle diverse tasks.
  • Flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact with varied audiences.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


  • This position will require the selected individual for hire to authorize a personal background check with the Nevada Financial Institutions Division, as well as provide professional references.
  • This job requires the employee to sit for approximately 6-7 hours a day and use a keyboard and mouse for repetitive motion. There will be >15 lbs. to lift, push, or pull in this job.
