Description:

A Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer on the Drive Unit Production Engineering team will be a part of Drive Unit wide projects that focus on improving operational excellence and business KPIs by solving the most challenging problems across the business unit and beyond. The engineer will have high level of exposure to business unit leaders and will collaborate with wide range of cross functional teams such as design, manufacturing, quality, and production teams. The best candidate for the position has a high aptitude to learn new skillsets in the position. This role requires capability across the board to sustain all parts of the automated equipment and requires hands-on involvement on the manufacturing line and emphasizes on analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in manufacturing processes, analyze critical data, and understand equipment capabilities. Modify line layouts using Lean Manufacturing best practices to optimize material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics. Participate in the transition of products from concept to mass manufacturing/commissioning, scale up and launch experience
  • Optimize production equipment to maximize safety and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), driving world-class quality levels. Lead continuous improvement projects to increase yield, capacity, and capability
  • Design new tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and equipment to enhance processes and yield. Conceptualize high-volume production equipment, prioritizing safety, cost, capacity, volumetric efficiency, and delivery time
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in the part manufacturing process, utilizing structured problem-solving techniques
  • Create documentation such as BOMs, schematics, maintenance guides, and operator manuals
  • Utilize CAD modeling and FEA structural analysis for new tooling/equipment, defining specifications and requirements
  • Identify automation opportunities and collaborate with Automation/Control Engineers for design and implementation
  • Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
  • Possess working experience with tools such as Conveyors & gantries, Robots, Atlas Copco Fastening tools, precision equipment
  • Support 24/7 production operations as needed


Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 9+ years of hands on experience as mechanical/ manufacturing/ design engineering working mechanical/ and electromechanical systems
  • Experience leading a team of engineers in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation; Allen Bradley, Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLC platforms; Robots, specifically Fanuc; Ignition/ SCADA data systems
  • Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA)
  • Ability and flexibility to support a highly automated line as well as a manual general assembly line and great understanding of vision system development & qualification, developing and improving HMI's & robotics maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization & teaching
  • Experience improving Equipment. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
  • Experience commissioning equipment & ramping up operations
  • Good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management
