Develop and manage language programs and resources to provide learning opportunities for learners of all ages, skill levels, and interests and promote the survival and continued vitality of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe languages.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote the survival and continued vitality of the Shoshone and Washoe languages;
  • Ensure compliance with stated program goals, guidelines, and objectives, and develop justifications and cost/benefit analyses for spending and initiatives;
  • Research, develop, and implement new language programs and learning activities such as classes, immersion events, etc., using the latest technologies and teaching and learning methods;
  • Collaborate with teachers and learning professionals on course design and development to ensure teaching materials and evaluation measures are appropriate for a learning atmosphere that maintains a safe physical environment for good instruction and learning;
  • Team-teach language classes; provide feedback to teachers on teaching techniques; solicit feedback from students on the quality of training including formal evaluations; use assessments to gauge learning.
  • Coordinate an in-house language learning laboratory and laboratory policies and practices;
  • Organize and update language archives including cataloging, copying, and storing of audio, video, and written files.
  • Collaborate with other Tribes' language program staff to develop and nurture relationships and partnerships;
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in linguistics, education, or related field required; Degree must be from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education; Minimum of three (3) years of experience in design, development, and implementation of language programs; Thorough knowledge of second language training methodology, techniques, and principles required; Knowledge of Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe languages required; Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to speak effectively before groups and respond to questions required; Experience with program management required; Strong teamwork skills required; Experience with teaching preferred; Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications required; Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events.

Special Requirements

PLEASE NOTE: Preference will be given to eligible applicants who are members of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Reno-Sparks Indian Colony requires any designated candidate to complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and confirmation of professional references. Must pass and comply with the HR Policy 164.905-PL101.630.
