Project Manager - Reporting & Analytics (Contractor)

Description:

Macmillan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Project Manager to lead a critical initiative: the migration of our data warehouse from Oracle to Snowflake. This project aims to significantly improve our data analytics capabilities, and we need a strong leader to ensure its success. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data warehousing principles, extensive project management experience, and a proven track record in managing complex technical migrations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Leadership and Execution:
    1. Lead the end-to-end delivery of the Oracle to Snowflake data warehouse migration project.
    2. Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables with stakeholders.
    3. Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, including timelines, milestones, resources, and budget.
    4. Manage project execution, ensuring adherence to the plan, and resolve issues proactively.
    5. Coordinate cross-functional team activities, including data engineers, DBAs, developers, and analysts.
  2. Technical Management:
    1. Oversee technical aspects of the migration, including ETL processes.
    2. Ensure data quality, integrity, and accuracy throughout the migration.
    3. Manage the design and implementation of the Snowflake environment.
    4. Coordinate with infrastructure and operations teams for a smooth transition.
    5. Evaluate and select migration tools and technologies.
  3. Stakeholder Management:
    1. Serve as the primary contact for project stakeholders.
    2. Communicate project status, risks, and progress regularly.
    3. Manage expectations and ensure alignment on goals.
    4. Facilitate meetings, workshops, and presentations.
  4. Risk and Issue Management:
    1. Identify, assess, and analyze risks and issues.
    2. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
    3. Manage and resolve issues to minimize impact on timelines and budget.
  5. Project Management Tools:
    1. Use Jira for task tracking and management.
    2. Use Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing.
    3. Employ Asana for team collaboration and progress tracking.
  6. Quality and Governance:
    1. Establish and maintain project management standards.
    2. Ensure deliverables meet quality and timeliness standards.
    3. Manage change control processes.
    4. Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  2. PMP or similar certification preferred.
  3. Minimum [Number] years managing complex technical projects, especially data warehouse migrations.
  4. Experience leading Oracle to Snowflake migrations is a plus.
  5. Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
  6. Experience with Oracle and Snowflake technologies.
  7. Proficiency in SQL and data manipulation languages.
  8. Experience with ETL tools and processes.
  9. Proven skills with Jira, Confluence, and Asana.
  10. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  12. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  13. Experience managing vendor relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  2. Knowledge of data modeling techniques.
  3. Experience with Agile methodologies.
  4. Understanding of data governance and security best practices.

This position offers an hourly rate up to $65/hour, employed through Headway Workforce Solutions.
