Diagnostic Testing: Performing and interpreting various hearing tests, including audiometry, to assess the type and degree of hearing loss.
Patient Education: Counseling patients and families about their hearing loss, explaining diagnosis, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments.
Assistive Device Dispensing: Potential to fit and dispense hearing aids or other assistive listening devices, following protocols and under supervision.
Aural Rehabilitation: Developing and implementing basic aural rehabilitation plans to help patients improve their listening skills.
Documentation: Maintaining accurate patient records and electronic health records (EHRs).
Collaboration: Working with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians and therapists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
Compliance: Adhering to all medical laws, guidelines, and regulations.
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) or equivalent degree.
Licensure/Certification: State license and/or national certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Clinical Skills: Ability to perform and interpret various audiometric tests, including pure tone testing, speech audiometry, and immittance testing.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively explain complex information to patients and families.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze test results and develop appropriate treatment plans.
Time Management: Ability to manage a busy schedule and prioritize tasks.
Knowledge of Assistive Devices: Understanding of different types of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive devices.
