Mechanical Design Engineer

Full-Time | Mechanical Contractor

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical systems design for multiple small- to mid-sized projects. This individual will work with limited oversight and is responsible for delivering high-quality, code-compliant designs from concept through construction documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead planning, coordination, and execution of project design efforts with some oversight.
• Independently manage conceptual and construction design phases for multiple standard projects concurrently.
• Develop HVAC designs that comply with applicable Building Codes, Energy Codes, and LEED standards.
• Perform HVAC calculations and design layouts for mechanical systems including equipment, ductwork, and piping.
• Apply engineering principles related to psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and controls.
• Collaborate appropriately with engineering leadership for technical decisions and project direction.
• Coordinate design efforts with Project Management, Construction, Service, Controls, and trade partners.
• Conduct economic and energy performance analyses.
• Support field engineering activities, including coordination, scheduling, documentation, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Ensure accuracy and quality in design drawings and 3D models.
• Communicate professionally with team members and project stakeholders.
• Effectively manage time and priorities to meet project schedules and deadlines.
• Provide guidance and oversight to other design team members when requested by management.
• Adhere to established engineering standards and project execution procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
• PE license preferred, but not required.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience with a Design/Build mechanical contractor or consulting firm.
• Strong grasp of engineering and design fundamentals, systems, and applications.
• Familiarity with relevant Building Codes and industry standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
