Summary Description
Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, is responsible for coaching or advising students of Washoe County School District in a specified athletic or non-athletic Extended Day Duty Activity, requiring a high standard of sound and acceptable coaching/advising practices. The incumbent adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and safety precautions. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop rapport with students and provide sound leadership; serve as a role model for good sportsmanship; apply discipline fairly and positively according to procedures; oversee students' health, welfare, actions, and conduct.
• Maintain cooperation and communication with Principal and/or Athletic Director regarding the program, trips, games, etc.
• Develop a system for accountability, equipment upkeep, and protection.
• Build good public relations within the school and community.
• Attend contests and practice sessions.
• Complete reports evaluating activities and suggest improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; preferred candidates are teachers under contract with Washoe County School District.
• Some experience as a coach or advisor in the specific activity.
• Knowledge of rules, theory, and regulations related to the activity, including recent changes.
• Skills in leadership, rapport-building, organizing practices and contests, communication, supervision, and promoting sportsmanship.
• Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable; CPR certification is required.

Additional Information

Willingness to work weekends and at various times. Compensation is stipend-based per the Extended Day Duty Scale. The district enforces strict anti-discrimination policies and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
