Senior Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

The Certerra Black Eagle Consulting Senior Geotechnical Engineer provides assistance to the Division Manager in areas such as field exploration, laboratory testing analysis, report preparation, and construction oversight related to engineering projects. The role may require fieldwork, limited travel, and occasional overnight stays. Our work environment is approximately 80% office and 20% field work, in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, eager to explore our region, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced industry with growth potential.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of geotechnical engineering design experience
  • ABET-accredited engineering degree (civil, geological, mining engineering, or similar)
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering and materials testing environments
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • Valid drivers license suitable for company insurance requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nevada registered Professional Engineer
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Grade 1 Certification
  • NAQTC Certification (sampling & density, aggregates, asphalt)
  • Nuclear density gauge experience

Essential Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily with the Division Manager
  • Conduct geotechnical field investigations, laboratory testing, and construction oversight
  • Prepare bids and estimates for investigations
  • Train and oversee junior staff
  • Lead pre-construction meetings with agencies and clients
  • Review and analyze lab and field data, prepare reports
  • Manage field exploration, soil testing, and geophysical investigations
  • Participate in professional development and industry groups
  • Inspect and oversee grading, earthwork, and foundation installation
  • Perform geotechnical analyses (slope stability, foundation design, seismic hazards, etc.)
  • Review project invoices and manage budgets
  • Develop Change Order requests for clients
