Job Description
Our client with Washoe County is looking for a Paralegal!
Under general direction of an attorney, performs a variety of specialized legal assignments
involving the advanced interpretation of laws and legal procedures; and performs related
work as required.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
An associate degree from an accredited college or university in paralegal studies,
completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association, or a
paralegal certification AND two years of full-time experience as a paralegal; OR an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATES
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Applicable court rules and procedures.
• Computer software specific to the department/division.
• Terminology, acronyms, and subject matter relative to the assigned area (s).
ABILITY TO:
• Read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations
pertaining to assigned area of focus.
• Compile, organize, analyze, and present a variety of research and information.
• Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
• Write and proofread a variety of documents, forms, correspondence, and reports.
• Handle sensitive and/or confidential information with discretion and
professionalism.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Maintain effective working relationships with all those contacted in the course of
work.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Assist attorneys in case preparation for court hearings, which may be held in person
or via Zoom.
• Present cases in court.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret a variety of case documents such as financial
records, employment records, custody agreements, divorce decrees etc.
• Perform administrative court preparation duties, file exhibits, and enter court orders
as requested.
• Prepare, verify, and review legal documents, forms, correspondence, and reports for
completeness and conformance with established rules, regulations, policies, and
procedures.
• Draft motions, legal briefs, other legal pleadings as assigned by Chief Deputy
District Attorney.
• Prepare exhibits, filings, and appendices in compliance with local court rules.
• Communicate with parties and private counsel as assigned by Chief Deputy District
Attorney
• Evaluate requests for hearings.
• Research legal issues and prepare a summary of findings as assigned by Chief
Deputy District Attorney.
