Manufacturing Quality Supervisor-3rd Shift


Location: Sparks, NV


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Include the following: other duties may be assigned:

  • Coordinates inspection activities on the shift, including material dispositioning.
  • Conducts and documents investigations as needed.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations in assigned areas, including workflow management, job assignments, and ensuring smooth production.
  • Implements quality and process improvement initiatives with quality and operations teams.
  • Develops and implements systems and activities to improve inspection and sampling productivity across all shifts.
  • Ensures adequate materials and supplies are available for sampling and inspections.
  • Conducts cGMP and on-the-job training for quality and operations personnel.
  • Assists with customer complaint investigations.
  • Conducts internal audits for cGMP compliance as needed.
  • Performs inspections and root cause analyses on manufacturing holds or deviations.
  • Provides long-term preventative action measures for deviations and holds.
  • Supports troubleshooting and issue resolution in Packaging and Processing departments.
  • Coordinates rework implementation with production personnel and tracks lot status.
  • Tracks deviations and ensures timely completion.
  • Reviews and updates departmental SOPs to maintain cGMP compliance.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, safety rules, FSMA standards, and GMPs, and drives continual improvement toward an injury-free environment.
  • Participates actively in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analyses; recommends and implements improvement ideas.
  • Monitors and meets key performance indicators in the quality area; measures daily productivity to meet standards.
  • Supports positive employee relations, fair treatment, and respect; addresses employee concerns promptly and fosters an inclusive, respectful work environment.
  • Engages in team performance management through objective setting, performance measurement, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Participates in Tier II meetings.
  • Closes hold and deviation investigations in a timely manner.
  • Delegates daily tasks for the inspection team.
  • Creates, updates, and reviews SOPs, work instructions, forms, master manufacturing records, and other documentation.
  • Is accountable for food safety and regulatory responsibilities; identifies and resolves food safety issues within scope of work.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.


SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT

Supports a culture of safe production and demonstrates safe work practices. Participates actively in safety programs, provides and accepts peer feedback on safety, and adheres to all safety policies and procedures. Reports incidents immediately, communicates hazards, and contributes to prevention efforts. Uses, wears, and stores PPE properly. Participates on safety teams and in safety-related activities. Ensures completion of safety analyses, inspections, and training. Acts as a communicator of safe practices and facilitates team participation in safety programs. Completes incident investigations and reports corrective and preventive actions. Enforces all company policies and safety procedures.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises quality employees on shift. Supervises in compliance with production rules, policies, government regulations, health and safety requirements, and quality standards. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and at least 2 years of related experience, OR a minimum of five years of quality-related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior lead experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in quality processes, inspection, and a GMP environment preferred.
  • Previous dietary supplement industry experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Word and Excel required; experience with Oracle and LIMS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality concepts related to food and dietary supplement manufacturing and ability to address arising problems.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Lean practices helpful.

Makes critical real-time decisions, reviews KPIs, and adjusts staffing proactively to ensure goals are met. Follows all company policies and safety requirements. Ability to work at multiple facility locations as needed.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as product specifications and procedure manuals. Ability to write technical reports, correspondence, and procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills. Bi-lingual skills helpful.

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, averages, ratios, proportions, and metric measurements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing duties, employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, squat, use hands, and reach. Regular use of computers, tools, and handling of various materials. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive motions as required. Sense of smell used as needed.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works around ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, botanicals, and chemicals that may require respiratory protection. Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and biological materials. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, vapors, airborne particles, and allergens. May work in loud areas requiring hearing protection. Must be able to travel occasionally, including air travel.
