The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Civil Rights Investigator. This position assists the Director, Center for Civil Rights & Equal Access in complaint resolution. The Investigator meets one on one with students and employees to investigate allegations of discrimination, retaliation and/or sexual harassment based upon protected class status, to include issues arising under Titles VI, and VII, of the Civil Rights Act and Title IX of the Education Amendments. The position researches relevant regulations and policies and produces written reports formulating findings and recommendations. Positions maintain a database system for organizing, managing, and tracking CCREA cases and offers traditional prevention workshops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Provost, Vice Provost, and the Director by facilitating and overseeing the complaint resolution process. Receiving/investigating complaints of discrimination based upon protected class status and/or sexual harassment and related allegations in violation of Federal and State laws, or University policies with limited assignment of allegations of sexual violence, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking
  • Meet with students, employees, and community members, gather information relating to open investigations
  • Identify and interview complainants, respondents, witnesses, and other parties as they pertain to the investigation
  • Research Civil Rights laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, and discuss with Director before providing information
  • Monitor Title VI, Title VII and IX programs and data sources to ensure compliance and develop and maintain data processes

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and two years of related work experience; OR a Master's Degree or J.D. and one year of related work experience

Related Experience: experience in human resources, human relations, student conduct, or a related field working with diverse populations; experience with federal and state laws and regulations related such as Title IX, Title VII, and VAWA; report writing and public speaking experience.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
