Basic Function: Systems Engineer III will lead and support requirements development, system verification planning and execution, risk management, and MBSE efforts on MDA-aligned missile defense programs. The role emphasizes cross-functional coordination, frequent stakeholder engagement, and contributions to technical planning and project execution. This position is ideal for an engineer who brings a system-level mindset and thrives in a structured, mission-critical development environment.
Responsibilities: - Lead and maintain system, subsystem, and interface requirements across the program lifecycle; ensure traceability and compliance with MDA standards
- Develop and manage system-level verification plans, procedures, and compliance matrices
- Plan and support execution of system-level verification events (e.g., reviews, inspections, tests)
- Conduct and maintain technical risk assessments, mitigation plans, and risk tracking documentation
- Interface regularly with cross-functional teams including propulsion, software, hardware, test, GNC, quality, and safety
- Collaborate with customer and supplier stakeholders to communicate requirements changes, verification status, and risk posture
- Support development of and maintain Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) artifacts using SysML and Cameo/MagicDraw
- Participate in configuration management, change control, and formal design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)
- Assist in technical planning, schedule alignment, and tracking of engineering deliverables
Experience: - 4 to 7 years of systems engineering experience in DoD, aerospace, or missile defense programs
- Proven experience in requirements development, verification planning, and risk management
- Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) processes, technical reviews, and CDRL development
- Hands-on experience with MBSE methodologies and modeling using SysML in tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler
- Background in stakeholder coordination and cross-functional engineering communication
- Exposure to project engineering tasks such as planning and status tracking is preferred
Education: - Required: Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited college/university
- Preferred: Master's degree in systems engineering or a related discipline is desirable and may substitute for 1 year of experience from an accredited college/university
Skills:
- Proficient in DOORS (or equivalent) for requirements management
- Competent in developing and interpreting SysML diagrams (e.g., block definition, activity, sequence, state)
- Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw) for MBSE documentation and integration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
- Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle standards (e.g., INCOSE SE Handbook, MIL-STD-499, EIA-632)
- Ability to assess and manage technical risks and develop actionable mitigation plans
- Strong technical writing skills for briefings, reports, and formal documentation
- Experienced with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Project
Others: - Experience supporting technical reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) for MDA or equivalent defense programs
- Working knowledge of DoDAF or similar system architecture frameworks
- INCOSE ASEP/CSEP certification, or experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) or scheduling tools, is a plus
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
