Assistant Professor Position in Counselor Education Program

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Counselor Education Program to begin August 2026. The Assistant Professor is a 9-month position, with summer teaching opportunities available. Responsibilities include conducting research, grant writing, teaching graduate courses in the counseling core and specialization tracks, advising and serving on graduate committees for master's and doctoral students, contributing to the counselor education program development, leadership, and service, and participating in college and CACREP performance assessment activities. Collegiality and student engagement are valued and expected.

Required Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited program in counselor education or have entered the counselor education field prior to 2013.
  • The applicant must have training, clinical experience, and/or teaching experience in school counseling, marriage, couple, and family counseling, and/or clinical mental health counseling.
  • The successful candidate should be licensed/credentialed or eligible for licensure in their specialty area (i.e., School Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and/or Clinical Mental Health) and be eligible for licensure in the state of Nevada.
  • Demonstrated engagement within counselor education and counseling professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated research engagement through publications, presentations, grants and contracts, and/or doctoral research mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A clearly defined counselor educator identity that aligns with at least one of our specialization areas.
  • Interest in program leadership (e.g., program coordination, facilitating program meetings, leading strategic initiatives).
  • Remote/online teaching experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are eligible for marriage, couple, and family, school counseling, or clinical mental health licensure in Nevada, and those with supporting expertise of professional involvement.
  • We seek candidates with a strong commitment to social justice, multiculturalism and inclusion, and advocacy for marginalized populations, aligning with the ACA multicultural and social justice counseling competencies.

Compensation Grade

Assistant Professor ($75,000 - $80,000)

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Program Information

The Counselor Education Program is housed in the Department of Human Development, Family Science, and Counseling in the College of Education and Human Development. The mission of the Counselor Education Program is to educate competent, culturally aware, ethical counselors who will provide exceptional services in both public and private settings to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society. We offer three master's specializations (marriage, family, and couples counseling; school counseling; and clinical mental health counseling), and a PhD in Education/Counselor Education and Supervision. All programs are CACREP accredited.
