Under the supervision of the group sales or department manager, the team leader gives daily direction to the associates in one of the departments within the store, to include: merchandise presentation, inventory control, pricing, sales enhancements, stocking, and customer service activities.
Essential functions include supporting the group sales manager or department manager in achievement of departmental sales, gross margin, inventory shrinkage, and payroll goals; providing daily direction to the associates within the department; preparing to-do/task lists; executing all merchandising directives; ensuring a pleasant and productive shopping experience for all customers; assisting in staffing the department with service-oriented associates; resolving customer and associate opportunities; maintaining a high level of personal customer service; remaining a product expert; assisting in coordination of special events; carrying out supervisory responsibilities; and providing a legendary experience for every customer.
Experience/qualifications include a minimum high school diploma or equivalent, 2 to 4 years in retail sales, and supervisory experience is a plus.
Knowledge, skills, and ability include calculating figures and amounts, reading and analyzing reports, presenting information, conducting meetings and presentations, proficiency with pc-based word processing and inventory management systems, and strong interpersonal skills.
Travel requirements are not applicable.
Physical requirements include standing and walking during shifts, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps; communicating with others; operating machinery and power tools; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; moving objects up to 20 pounds constantly, and occasionally moving and lifting objects up to 100 pounds or more; working in tight and confined spaces; and working in noisy environments.
Independent judgment involves performing duties within the scope of general company policies, analyzing problems, performing needs assessments, using judgment in adapting broad guidelines, and making recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
