Job Description: The Dental Front Office Representative/Dental Sterilization Technician manages front desk dental functions of the dental clinic working in partnership with the provider staff to ensure smooth operation at the individual clinic level; is responsible for assisting the Dental Supervisor with the day-to-day business operation and facility maintenance to include administrative functions, billing, purchasing, customer service and quality management. Provides sterilization of dental instruments and trays. Sets up clean trays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of essential functions in a core dental office
  2. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  3. Computer skills including ECW (or other patient communication programs if needed)
  4. Knowledge of ADA, CDT and ICD-10-CM coding
  5. Knowledge of dental insurance protocols
  6. Knowledge of dental operational & electronic records systems; ability to apply knowledge in system development, maintenance and training situations
  7. Skill in operating personal computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases and email
  8. Skill in operating various office equipment, such as copy machine, facsimile machine, and telephone system
  9. Keen understanding of scheduling and financial systems in order to support the practice
  10. Knowledge of HIPPA and ensures patient confidentiality
  11. Skill in accuracy and attention to detail
  12. Ability to follow directives as set forth by supervisor and management
  13. Ability to work with others
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, most importantly patient financial and dental information
  15. Ability to read and write legibly and calculate mathematical figures
  16. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  17. Ability to provide exemplary customer service for both internal and external customers.
  18. Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
  19. Ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and to enhance teamwork in the clinics and overall CHA organization

  26. Standing for extended periods of time (up to 2-3 hours) at a time.
  27. Working in isolated areas for a long period of time.

  33. Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently
  34. Knowledge of OSHA standards for cleaning and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic.
  35. Knowledge of dental instruments, names and usage.
  36. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards for handling contaminated instruments, set up of sterile fields, and sterile trays.
  37. Ability to set up a variety of sterile trays based on provider preference and procedure.
  38. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.


Education and Experience: High School Diploma or technical school is required plus at least 2 years related experience and training in a dental or medical front/back office; or equivalent combination of education and experience, current OSHA training. Experience in dental front desk procedures and dental sterilization is preferred.

Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred but not required. Candidates with bilingual skills will have an advantage in communicating with a diverse range of clients and team members.
