This position is a volunteer unpaid Board of Directors position and is hybrid and part-time. The hiring organization is Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada (RTNNV). - Has the time to commit to meetings, committees and projects. If currently serving on multiple boards, and contributing to several other organizations, it may be unlikely to contribute the same to RTNNV;
- Desires to contribute their skills and areas of interest in a way that expands the organization's impact in the communities they serve.
Position Description:
The Board Member will support the work of Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada (RTNNV) and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by RTNNV's CEO, the Board Chair, and the other Board members, the Board Member-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.
Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
Leadership, governance and oversight
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board Chair as they develop and implement RTNNV's
strategic plan. Know RTNNV's mission, policies, programs, and needs.
- Follow RTNNV's bylaws, policies and board resolutions.
- Review outcomes and metrics created by RTNNV for evaluating its impact and regularly measure its performance and effectiveness using those metrics.
- Read and understand RTNNV's financial statements.
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings and comment on minutes and reports.
- Approve RTNNV's annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions.
- Be informed of and meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Board Chair and CEO.
- Assist the Board Chair and the CEO in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.
- Partner with the Board Chair and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out.
- Represent RTNNV to stakeholders; act as ambassadors for the organization.
- Ensure RTNNV's commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities RTNNV serves.
Fundraising
- Annually give and/or raise $2,500.00. This allows RTNNV to credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals.
- Actively participate in fundraising for RTNNV.
Board terms and participation
- Serve a 3-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.
- Attending a minimum of three of the four board meetings; attend important related meetings such as annual planning retreats, annual meetings, special events and activities, and self-evaluation process.
- Serve on committee(s) and take on special assignments.
- Volunteer for and be willing to accept assignments and complete them on time.
Additional responsibilities
- Sign an annual conflict of interest policy certificate; disclosure and update it during the year, if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization.

- Have a 2+ year track record of other board leadership roles or providing leadership to RTNNV on its committees
- Ability and willingness to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of our low-and-moderate-income community members
- A resident of Northern Nevada, or relocation to the Reno/Lake Tahoe region in the next month
Service on RTNNV's Board of Directors is without remuneration.
