Reno-Sparks Indian Colony: Our Mission

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. Make a difference as a Patient Representative

As a Full Time, Patient Representative at Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a crucial role in our community by providing essential reception services and assisting patients with a friendly and professional demeanor. Your primary responsibility will be to effectively interview patients and ensure their demographic information is accurately maintained within the RPMS/Unix program. You'll utilize your critical thinking skills to determine tribal eligibility and assess potential alternate resources based on varying circumstances. In this dynamic role, your ability to connect with individuals and navigate complex eligibility criteria will contribute significantly to our mission of delivering exceptional social services to our community. Requirements for this Patient Representative job

To excel as a Full Time Patient Representative at Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a diverse skill set tailored for this vital role. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a typing speed of at least 45 words per minute and proficiency in operating office equipment, such as copiers, fax machines, and multi-line phones. Familiarity with medical and dental terminology is preferred, alongside basic writing and math skills for effective data entry. A minimum of six months of experience in health insurance plans, including Medicare and Nevada Medicaid, is essential.

Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and cultural sensitivity, especially when engaging with elderly and indigenous patients. Additionally, the ability to maintain patient confidentiality is crucial, as is passing a background check and recent Tuberculosis skin test while holding current CPR certification. These skills combine to create a compassionate and efficient approach to patient care.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Must have a high school diploma or a General Education Degree (GED).

  • Must be able to type at least 45 words per minute, operate office equipment, such as copier and fax machine, computer and multi-line phones.
  • Prefer knowledge of Medical and Dental terminology.
  • Must possess basic writing math skills commensurate with education and data entry.
  • Must have at least six months of work experience relating to health insurance plans such as Medicare Nevada Medicaid and private insurance group plans etc.
  • Able to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Must have above average customer service skills
  • ability to work in a diverse minority environment to effectively interview all patients in-depth. Demonstrated ability to be patient with the elderly and indigenous persons.
  • Able to pass a background investigation.
  • Must pass recent Tuberculosis skin test and have current CPR certification.
