The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels.
The duties of the Director of Government Affairs are as follows:
Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 undergraduate credits Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct Meet all deadlines set forth Attend all required meetings and training Work scheduled hours Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time Assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada Behave in a manner that is ethical, maintaining a high level of integrity Other duties as called upon by my position I understand if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents, my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada.
Strong background in political science and government relations through course of study and/or prior work experience Existing and in-depth knowledge of the Nevada State Legislature Motivation to further the goals and initiatives of ASUN: Conducting student outreach to understand non-partisan legislative priorities of the student body Connecting with state, local, and federal policymakers to brainstorm policy solutions to student issues Actively tracking bill draft requests for 84th Nevada State Legislature aligned with student interests Serving as a robust advocate within the Nevada System of Higher Education Furthering on-campus voter education and registration Sponsoring opportunities for political engagement on a nonpartisan basis Strong writing and policy analysis skills Ability to cultivate relationships with students, student clubs and organizations, and policymakers Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically, and culturally diverse people and communities Excellent organization and project management skills in a team-based environment with multiple projects Budgeting experience Proficient at leading a cohesive team Access to consistent and reliable transportation to Carson City during the week throughout the 83rd Nevada State Legislative Session
Grade Student Employee Level 2 $5,000.00 in a single term distributed evenly over a 12-month period.

You must demonstrate that you qualify for the position and your education and experience must be clearly documented. Cover Letter - (required) Please explain why you want to be the ASUN Director of Government Affairs and what you think you will contribute to the Associated Students of the University of Nevada. Portfolio - (required) Compile a document that includes an introduction about yourself, your goals for the 94th session for the Department of Government Affairs, including specific ideas for collaboration and events, and a proposed timeline for April 2026 - April 2027. Writing Sample - (required) Provide a copy of at least one policy-related writing sample showcasing your analysis skills. This sample can be drawn from your previous academic coursework or professional experiences. Two References - (required) Please include the name, title, contact information, and relationship for two (2) professional references. You can include this in your resume.
